Cornwall may be a hit with Brits thanks to its gorgeous beaches, but some tourists have been left less than impressed by one of those sandy shores.

In fact, they've been so outraged at the 'wrong sort of sand' and crowds they found, that they've taken to TripAdvisor and left some pretty savage – and hilarious – reviews, reports CornwallLive.

Porthminster Beach in St Ives has proven particularly unpopular with some visitors who say that its sands are 'sticky' and waters cold.

One unhappy holidaymaker wrote: "Very cold water. We visited the beach yesterday. We had to walk ages to the sea because the tide was out and when we got there it was freezing and very windy. The sand was awful as it is the wrong sort of sand and very sticky. It got everywhere and I’m still finding bits today! Won't be back next year."

Another added: "Hideous, overcrowded, noisy, covered in litter. Why would anyone with any sense want to go to this place which is hell on earth? Crowded, noisy, nothing to eat but bad fish and chips and Cornish pasties, and the beach packed full of the morbidly obese, screaming sunburnt children in buggies and people with tattoos. The place to go to see parenting at its worst and cardiovascular disease waiting to happen."

Earlier this year St Ives was named as the UK's best seaside town thanks to its quality of hotels, attractions and beaches – but locals have revealed that it has a dark side tourists don't always see.

Rebecca Quick, who has lived in St Ives for 50 years, said that rude tourists and empty second homes are proving to be issues for the local community. She added: "I avoid town like the plague in peak season so as to avoid the crushing inevitability of a fracas with a fed up, bored, soggy holidaymaker."

The town's Porthminster Beach wasn't the only Cornish hotspot that left tourists wanting more.

Perranporth Beach has previously been slammed by one tourist because its sand was 'too damp'.

In a review posted in 2018, they wrote: "There are a few car parks but I think we were just lucky in finding a space. Understandably in the height of summer the place was jam packed. There's lots of surf shops, ice cream parlours.

"The beach itself looked really good for surfers, however I found the sand to be much too damp – not great for building sand castles. It was far too busy for my liking better as a surfers beach rather than one for chilling out on."
