Travel expert explains how vaccine will impact holidays in future

Travel fans are desperate to jet off in 2021.
And with the vaccine rollout in full swing, there’s finally some hope during the coronavirus pandemic.
But will impact will the jabs actually have on holidays?
According to Nicky Kelvin, Head of Content for The Points Guy UK, they’ll be a great way to get the industry up and running again.
Not only should it “stabilise” rules and travel corridors that keep changing, it should also give people the confidence to travel again.
Despite this, the travel expert does warn it’s likely to take a while for everything to go back to “normal”.
What impact will the Covid vaccine have on holidays?
Nicky Kelvin said: “The rollout of the Covid vaccine will offer the recovering travel industry a huge helping hand.
“The vaccine will help to restore consumer confidence and likely pave the way for quarantine-free air travel.
“The travel industry has been hit hard by the drop in passenger numbers since the start of the pandemic, with airlines including British Airways and EasyJet cutting thousands of jobs as travel remains uncertain.
“The constantly changing lockdown rules has left international travel uncertain as where people are willing to travel for leisure often depends on the Government’s latest update.
“This has created chaos for the travel industry, with many airlines and travel agents quickly pouring into ‘open’ destinations, and at the same are forced to cancel flights and package holidays.”
Nicky said all this chopping and changing has made Brits fearful to book holidays.
He explained: “The unpredictable and sudden nature of these announcements has a dramatic impact on consumer confidence and traffic levels.”
But thankfully, this should change for the better when people get their vaccines.
He added: “In response, the introduction of vaccine in order to travel should help to stabilise the industry, giving global travellers the confidence to travel again. Implementing an effective vaccine will also boost to many destinations struggling with the effects on tourism of Covid-19.
“In short, certainty and confidence is needed for travel to rebound, and a successful vaccine could be the silver bullet to do just this.”
So when will we be able to go on holiday again?
Even though the vaccine offers hope, it may still be a while before we jet off again.
Nicky said: “There is a still a long way to go.
“Although the vaccine rollout has begun in the UK, there are billions of doses that would need to be administered to achieve the sort of immunity required for Covid disappear as a significant issue.
“This is likely to take some time and in the interim, we will see existing global regulations such as quarantining and requirements for negative tests in some countries and mask wearing remain compulsory.”
