Travel expert shares ‘number on tip’ to save money on a holiday
Nicky Kelvin, travel expert at the Points Guy UK, shared his top money-saving tips for Britons. Nicky’s tips could help Britons save on a summer holiday.
Nicky told Express.co.uk: “My number one top tip for travelling is to make sure to look out for all the different discount codes on offer when booking a holiday.
“For the best prices on hotels, Google the name of the booking site that you are using and look for ‘discount code’ alongside, and usually a code will come up straight away.
“This is a simple and efficient process that takes no time at all and helps minimise general holiday costs.”
Discount codes could help to take a bit of money off the overall price of holiday accommodation.
British tourists can also sometimes get discounts for using booking platforms they haven’t used before.
Airbnb and Booking.com sometimes offer discounts for first-time users or will offer a voucher if a friend books a trip.
It’s worth checking if there are any deals available before booking a trip as there could be a chance to save.
Nicky added: “There are also many discounts available through American Express for airline and hotel groups that can be utilised by simply activating under the offer tab in the Amex app.”

Some companies, such as American Express, will offer customers additional discounts through an app.
Nicky said: “Eating out can be the biggest cost on the road, so it’s worth thinking ahead.
“It’s wise to book a hotel that includes free breakfast and then find happy hour or lunch deals at restaurants along the way.
“However, if you’re staying in a destination for more than a week, an accommodation with a kitchen can definitely save you money by purchasing food from local groceries and cooking quick meals for yourself instead.”
Although it might sound like it should be included, not every hotel offers customers a free breakfast.
If the included breakfast is a buffet, it could be a good idea to book an included breakfast and fill up there for the morning.
Many restaurants in European countries, such as Spain, offer attractive menu deals at lunchtime.
Tourists could save money by eating out for lunch instead of dinner if they look out for the menu of the day.
Cities with universities may also have lots of bars with cheap happy hours designed for a student budget.
Britons can check out Google reviews to have a look for a cheap bar that might help them save on a cocktail.
Self-catered accommodation can also help tourists to save and families can have fun trying the local cuisine at home.
If Britons book a camping holiday, they could cook for themselves and enjoy al fresco meals under the stars.
