The struggling travel industry has been given a much-needed boost as from today Brits will be able to visit more destinations without the need to quarantine. Holidaymakers desperate for a foreign holiday will be able to jet off to a further seven green list countries. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest travel rules.
Following a review of the travel traffic light system on August 4, many countries have been moved to the UK’s green or amber travel lists.
These changes came into effect from 4am this morning.
These changes have opened up the number of destinations sun-starved Britons can jet off to without the need to quarantine upon their return.
Which countries can you travel to without the need to quarantine?
Travellers arriving from green list countries do not need to quarantine regardless of their vaccine status.
Which countries have been moved to the green list?
The Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced the following seven countries would be moved to the green list from today:
Austria
Germany
Latvia
Norway
Romania
Slovakia
Slovenia
The Government has expanded the options for many travellers in a recent decision to drop quarantine requirements for those returning from amber list countries.
Brits returning from amber list destinations won’t need to isolate if they have been fully vaccinated.
Which countries have been added to the amber list?
The following countries have been added to the amber list:
- Bahrain
- India
- The United Arab Emirates
- Qatar
France has also been moved back onto the amber list after being moved temporarily onto the “amber plus list”.
This meant even fully vaccinated Brits would still have to quarantine upon their arrival back into the UK.
With the majority of UK adults now fully vaccinated, many will be watching the amber list as keenly as the green list.
Travel to amber list countries has seen a surge in bookings after Mr Shapps announcement last Wednesday.
Brittany Ferries said trip bookings between France and the UK more than doubled after the Government’s latest review was announced.
Travel companies have also seen a surge in interest in trips to the United Arab Emirates.
But the latest review didn’t bring good news for all as four destinations were added to the red list.
Travellers arriving from Georgia, Mexico or the French overseas territories La Reunion and Mayotte will now face a ten-day stay quarantine hotel.
