UK holidays: Butlin’s forced to delay opening date over lack of government clarity

Butlin’s will now not be opening to guests until late July, it has been announced. The leisure company has blamed a delay in clarification from the government for the postponed opening. Butlin’s resorts will now open on July 23.

The company said in its latest update: “Following last week’s announcement from the Government on the continued closure of pools and live entertainment, we have been waiting for further clarification on when and how we can open these facilities for you.

“Sadly we haven’t had a further update, and with breaks fast-approaching, we have now extended the closure of our resorts to July 23.”

Guests who have been affected by the extended closure will be contacted by Butlin’s.

“If your break has been affected, you will receive an email, SMS or letter from us asking you to fill in a form,” the company explained.

They will be responding to holidaymakers in arrival order.

Those whose holidays have been cancelled in the coming weeks have three options.

Firstly, they can decide now to transfer to another break in 2020 or 2021 for free.

Secondly, they can delay their decision and rebook at any time in the next 12 months.

Thirdly, customers can get in touch if they wish to discuss refunds.

Butlin’s offered words of comfort to those with holidays after the opening date.

“For those of you who have breaks booked after July 23, we know this is an unsettling time,” said Butlin’s.

“We’d like to assure you we continue to have discussions around opening very soon and are exploring different ways to bring you the Butlin’s experience we know you’re looking forward to.

“We will give you a minimum of 14 days notice if there are any changes to your break and of course you also have the option of our Coronavirus Book with Confidence Guarantee, which allows you to move your break or request a full refund between three and 28 days prior to your arrival date.

“We know this has been a frustrating time for you all, and we thank you for your continued patience as we continue to work towards reopening our resorts and giving you all a well-deserved holiday.”

Butlin’s is also ramping up health and safety measure amid coronavirus.

The company explained: “We’ll be significantly reducing the number of guests, and with new social distancing measures in place, drive-through check-ins and stringent, more frequent cleaning procedures, we’re adapting our resorts to ensure they’re safer places so everyone can enjoy coming back to Butlin’s.

“We’re also updating our app to make it easier to plan your break in advance.”

According to research by financial comparison service Money.co.uk Butlins topped the list of Britons’ favourite holiday brands with 186 percent more searches during lockdown.

Interestingly, holiday seekers in Portsmouth were revealed to have the most searches for the holiday brand.

Also in the top 10 were holiday park brands Hoseasons, Haven and Center Parcs.
