UK restaurant rated ‘top in the world’ in TripAdvisor ‘best of the best’ awards
Despite Britain’s reputation for terrible food – quite unfairly, we think – a UK restaurant has blown people away by being named the best fine dining restaurant in the world.
The foodie hot spit is based in the Lake District and was chosen as the winner of the TripAdvisor 2021 Traveller’s Choice “Best of the Best” awards.
The Old Stamp House Restaurant won the top spot in two of the restaurant categories – the fine dining and date night sections.
Based in Ambleside – where William Wordsworth once lived – the cosy restaurant boasts a Michelin Star and features food which celebrates the food and heritage of Cumbria.
Some of the delicious dishes available include Cumbrian crab, black pudding bon bons and wild rabbit.
You can rent a holiday home for a whole year – and it'll cost just £1.15
Plus, on the dinner tasting menu – priced at £75 for 11 dishes – there’s hand dived scallops and spiced mead sauce.
Plus, braised hogget, halibut, beer bread, duck liver, and a raspberry tart.
If you’d prefer to eat lunch here then a menu will cost £45 per person.
The seven course menu features oysters, rum and gingerbread tart and local seafood.
The website reads: “Cumbria has a fascinating food heritage thanks largely to its people, its landscape and a little-known facet, its coast. In particular, the ports of Whitehaven and Maryport, which brought the world to the Lake District.
“This rich larder shaped over thousands of years by nature and the hand of man provides the team at the heart of the Old Stamp House with all manner of inspiration for their Michelin starred food. A fact reflected in the seasonal menus they serve, with each dish paying homage to the region’s rich food heritage, its people, and its deep-seated cultural heritage.”
London’s Scarlett Green also snagged a worldwide win as the top restaurant on the brunch list.
The eatery serves a famous Aussie brunch with seasonal influences and classic staples alongside a bottomless option.
And, Craft Birmingham was praised for offering British foods in special dining pods which allow social distancing to the top notch degree.
Spanish town offers free rent and jobs to families who will move there
Martin Verdon-Roe, general manager of Hospitality Solutions at Tripadvisor, said: “It’s no secret that the restaurant industry has taken a hit over the past year or so, but the good news is that would-be diners all over the world are hungrier than ever to dine out again.
“There is so much good out there to explore this summer and beyond and no matter what you’re craving, the Best of the Best Restaurants Awards is on hand to serve as a menu of options to satisfy your appetite.”
Other winners include Koral Restaurant in Bali, Asil Restaurant in Dubai, Degusteria Italiana agli Uffizi in Italy and Vegan Beat from Greece.
