UK holidays are set for a boost if plans come to fruition for a new opulent spa resort in East Anglia near the Norfolk Broads. The “Floating Sanctuary – Water Lily PADS” project, currently in the early stages of planning, boasts 131 lakeside lodges all located on or near the water’s edge, plus 23 treehouse accommodations for guests who want to immerse themselves in the surrounding woodlands.

Guests will be able to enjoy a relaxing treatment followed by a delicious meal at the floating spa and restaurant.

The surrounding Ashwicken Lake will be central to the holiday experience, with visitors able to enjoy an array of water-based pursuits including rowing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and open water swimming.

Furthermore, there will also be a lakeside pool.

In mock-up images provided by the architect, this swimming spot will be useful in all weathers thanks to a glass roof.

For those who prefer to stay on dry land, the resort also promises tennis courts, areas for ball games, archery, a climbing wall and children’s play areas.

There will also be plenty of spots for on deck sunbathing and al fresco dining.

In some of the concept images, a boardwalk stretching across the lake also appears to be one of the main features of the resort, providing a picturesque opportunity for sunset strolls.

The £35 million wellness resort is the dream of Norfolk Farm Leisure Limited, in partnership with Baca Architects.

Spanning 80 hectares, the site will also have its own internal access roads and car park.

Furthermore, developers are keen to maintain an environmentally friendly focus, with plans specifying low carbon energy generation.

The developers also hope it will act as a “living sculpture” providing a scenic backdrop to a dreamy holiday escape.

“The Water Lily is both architecture and a living sculpture.

“Imagine holidaying here? It would be so refreshing, pure escapism and unlike anything else that the UK has to offer.

“It’s been an absolute joy to work on and wonderful that the Client has been involved at every stage of the project’s evolution,” commented Richard Coutts, co-founder of Baca Architecture.

It is also hoped the new resort could provide a boost for the local area.

According to creators, the £35 million private sector investment could help create260 new jobs at the resort.

Plus, it is also anticipated an additional 60 jobs across the local supply chain would provide a boost for the wider economy.

Overall, it is thought the Ashwicken Lake spa and lodges could lead to an estimated £8 million towards the local economy.

Given the project is still in its early stages, no exact date has been specified for when this new holiday resort could hit Norfolk.

It is anticipated public consultations will be held before any further details can be confirmed.
