A bargain staycation can be hard to find in the current climate. However, there are a few spots around the UK where Britons can find a cheaper deal.

Cheapest staycation destinations

  1. West Yorkshire
  2. Derbyshire
  3. Gwynedd
  4. Powys
  5. Cornwall

LateRooms.com used internal data to find the cheapest staycation destinations for British families.

The team found that West Yorkshire was the cheapest spot with the average cost per night for a family of four just £80.28.

Families could head to Leeds where they will be able to enjoy one of the city’s incredible restaurants.

Tourists can visit Leeds Kirkgate Market, one of the largest indoor markets in Europe, to find fresh food, cafes, jewellery, flowers and more.

Derbyshire came in second place with the average cost of a night for a family of four at just £88.52.

Home to the Peak District, the county could be the perfect UK destination to enjoy a bracing winter walk.

Tourists can explore the magnificent Hardwick Hall which dates from the Elizabethan era and was a filming location for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

After a long day rambling, tourists can tuck into a delicious Bakewell Pudding, without which a visit to Derbyshire wouldn’t be complete.

Gwynedd in Wales was ranked in third place with a night’s break for a family of four at £102.60.

The Welsh county is home to Caernarfon Castle, a dramatic 13th century structure and a top tourist attraction.

Tourists could also pay a visit to Portmeirion, Gwynedd’s tourist village which was designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis.

The colourful village is packed in summer but winter staycationers may find it a more relaxed experience.

Powys also made the top four with rooms just slightly more than Gwynedd, at £103.48 for a family of four.

Cornwall might be more popular in summer but was another top destination with far cheaper prices in winter.

Matthew Fox, CEO of LateRooms.com said: “The cost of living crisis is hitting families hard, especially with the colder weather upon us and the festive season drawing near.

“However, here at LateRooms.com, we don’t think that should mean families have to miss out on holidays, which is why we’ve created a list of the most affordable holiday destinations this festive season, where accommodation is cheapest and you won’t need to spend a fortune on activities either!”
