UK’s favourite winter seaside staycation is ‘fantastic’ and walkable
Although winter isn’t usually a popular time for a holiday, many Brits are still looking to explore the UK this season. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time for a cosy winter staycation.
The expert travel team at Airbnb have shared the top trending destinations on the accommodation booking platform.
Brighton, one of the UK’s most famous seaside cities, was named as one of this year’s most popular winter staycation destinations.
The British seaside resort is also the UK’s most walkable seaside city, making it the ideal destination for Brits who want to get out on a winter walk.
One of its top attractions is the ornate Royal Pavilion which was originally built as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV.

During the winter season, the Pavilion is open from 10am until 5.15pm, with the last admission at 4:30pm.
‘AnnE & Chas’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “What a fantastic experience. The Royal Pavilion was so exotic and full of splendour.
“It must have been stunning when it was first built as it took our breath away. It has aged very elegantly due to the hard work of all the staff concerned.”

If the weather’s wet and windy, there’s no better activity than spending the afternoon treasure hunting through the shops and boutiques on Brighton Lanes.
From antiques to vintage clothing, the Lanes are the perfect place for some last-minute Christmas shopping. If nothing catches the eye, hunker down in a cafe for a hot chocolate or mulled wine.
If the skies are clear, wander along the promenade for a bracing beach walk and look out for the former pier which still stands despite the fire.
