Beachy, hot holidays weren’t possible for everyone this summer, with the traffic light system making travel unpredictable and the costs of coronavirus tests putting people off booking a trip abroad. If you decided against a holiday over the summer months, you might be tempted to soak up the sun somewhere warm next month, but where is hot in September? Here are the top 7 hottest destinations in the month of September, according to the Met Office, Travel Supermarket, Thomas Cook and TUI.

Fuerteventura, The Canary Islands

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, and the Islands are currently on the Amber list.

The island is a major European holiday destination off the west coast of Africa, but it’s a part of Spain.

You can expect the average daily maximums to reach highs of 27.5C, but you should be aware that humidity levels average at an uncomfortable 71 percent.

However, there’s a steady coastal breeze to keep you cool while you lay on the beach and there’s very little chance of rainfall.

Nice, France

France is on the Amber list now, but you can still go as long as you take the proper precautions.

September is a great time to visit Nice if you want to enjoy the lovely weather without the busy crowds in the summer holidays.

You can expect average daily temperatures of 22C with lows of 18C, and be prepared for a few light showers.

Don’t worry too much though, the sea is warm enough to take a dip and it’s still sunny enough to wear your favourite summer gear while strolling through the city and enjoying the 12 hours of sunshine per day.

Paris, France

If you’ve been desperate to visit the City of Love but don’t want to wait until there’s snow on the ground, act now!

Paris is the ideal place to go in September because, although the temperatures drop to 20.8C, it’s still sunny and warm enough to sightsee without overheating.

It’s far more likely to rain in Paris in July and August than it is September, so you probably won’t need your brollie on this city break, either.

Oranjestad, Aruba

Oranjestad is the capital and largest city of Aruba, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and it’s nice and hot in September.

The average daily maximum in the city throughout September is 33C and the average daily minimum is 28C.

There’s a 70 percent chance of clouds, but the water is warm at an average of 29C so you can take a dip in the sea and not worry too much about rain!

Aruba is currently on the Amber list, so you can still go there.

Morocco

Morocco is a country in Africa on the Amber list, and it’s only about three hours away from the UK on a plane.

Whether you want to spend your days sightseeing and adventuring or relaxing by the beach in a luxury resort, Morocco has something for everyone (particularly Marrakech, Agadir and Essaouira).

While you might think you’ve missed out on the summer heat, it’s actually better to visit Morocco in September as the temperatures will be at around 27°C, with sunlight lasting about eight hours a day.

The Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is known for its spectacular beaches, so it’s the perfect place to sunbathe in September.

The average temperature throughout the month is 23C, which is ideal for relaxing on the sandy beaches or eating delicious food in traditional restaurants.

Try Albufeira if you’re looking for glorious beaches and resorts, or Lagos if you want something more laid-back.

Sardinia, Italy

Sardinia is the place to be if you want to experience a variety of stunning beaches and warm weather in September.

You can expect average temperatures of 22C, which is just warm enough to explore the 1,000km of coastline Sardinia has to offer.

Try Baia Sardinia if you want clear waters and white sands or Porto Cervo if you want something more glamorous.

We haven’t included the below list in our top seven destinations due to Covid restrictions and ongoing wildfires – but these locations are also hot in September if you’re looking to book for 2022 and beyond.
