Woman hailed as ‘genius’ for her must-pack holiday items that ‘just make sense’

Brits can spend a week of their lives packing for holidays, but we all know how easy it can be to end up taking loads of stuff you don't actually need.

However, one woman has been hailed a 'genius' after her husband revealed the items she always packs for their trips – and people are loving her checklist.

TikTok user @thomaswclifford posted the clip, titled 'Things my wife takes on holiday which just make sense', and it's become an instant hit with over one million views to date.

In the clip he cuts to some of the items in questions such as a pop-up washing basket, an extension cable, an outdoor hanger and a shower speaker.

Social media fans seem to have instantly taken to her way of thinking. In fact, one TikTok user commented: "Actually bought all of these after seeing this TikTok! Your wife’s a genius".

Out of all the items, it's the pop-up washing basket that seems to be particularly popular with viewers.

One TikTok user hailed the idea as 'genius' while another said they were "defo buying a pop up washing basket for my next hol".

However, Thomas was quick to joke with people who were sharing their own travel hacks too.

When one user said they'd been taking washing baskets for years, with one for lighter clothes and one for darker clothes, Thomas quipped back: "I hope she doesn’t see this, the last thing I need is two washing baskets".

Think outfits, not individual pieces

What is it about a holiday that makes us want to pack way more clothes than we’ll ever need? But if you want to keep your luggage light and your packing stress-free, it’s important to only take what you’ll need. Visualise the outfits you can put together from a few simple but beautiful separates.

Keep your essentials in your carry-on

If you’re checking in a bag as well as taking a carry-on, make sure you keep your all-important items in the latter, to mitigate the risk if your suitcase gets lost – and also means you'll have some essentials until can stock up again.

This includes:

  • any medication you need
  • your phone charger
  • skincare essentials like lip balm
  • wet wipes
  • ID documents
  • a light change of clothes
  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • entertainment, like a tablet, book or headphones

If you’re travelling light and only taking hand luggage on your trip, slot a small tote bag into your carry-all or small suitcase with the essentials separated out for easy access. When you get on the plane, store your main hand luggage away and keep that one handy.
