Woman rages at passenger eating food on flight that ‘makes her sick’

A passenger has shared their distress after fellow holidaymakers complained about them bringing smelly food onto a flight.

Other passengers apparently “glared daggers” at the person and made “comments” about their meal.

They explained that they had an eight hour flight having just taken a short connection.

The previous flight had only fed customers a packet of crackers so the passenger was starving ahead of their longer journey.

So, they decided to buy food at the airport to eat on the flight – but fellow travellers were enraged at the decision.

Posting on Reddit, they said: “This is happening right now and the lady sitting next to me is glaring daggers at me while making passive aggressive comment under her breath.

“During the connection, I only had barely enough time to run from one end of the airport to the other.

“Once I got to my connecting gate, I found out I had enough time to order food but not eat it.

“I checked with the gate agent to see if I can bring food onboard and she happily reassured me that I could.

“I went and got a burger, fries, and a drink.”

As soon as they were allowed to put their tray table down – usually directly after the plane levels out after take off – they got their food out and tucked in.

But, their seat neighbour was disgusted as she did not eat certain foods herself and didn’t want to sit next to the smell.

The poster wrote: “This is when the lady sitting next to me told me she doesn’t eat meat or fried foods and the smell of my burger and fries are making her sick.

“At first I ignored her and kept on eating but she complained louder.

“I finally told her I bought the food after checking with the gate agent and I’m hungry so she’s out of luck.

“She called the flight attendant and was told that I’m well within my rights to eat food that was bought at the airport.”

The holidaymaker was, however, worried that they’d committed a faux pas.

They asked fellow Reddit users if they were an “a**hole” for eating “pungent [food] in an enclosed area”.

Hundreds of people replied – and most were on the poster’s side.

One person noted: “A burger and fries is not ‘pungent’.”

“Offer her the bag it came in if she is going to be sick,” joked another.

A third suggested: “I find the silent approach works best, just react to eating your food, don't make sound and do it at random intervals while you eat.

“Definitely annoys some people.”

“It’s not like OP is eating a tuna sandwich,” another comments. “Just because she doesn’t approve of eating meat and fried foods doesn’t mean she can dictate what others around her are eating.”

But, some could see where the other person was coming from.

One noted: “I will admit I hate when people eat burgers and fries during a flight.

“I don’t say anything but I cussed them out in my head.

“It stink so much since we’re trapped and can’t really open the windows to get the smell out.”

Another added: “While a burger and fries are personal favourites, I hate the smell of hot food on a plane, except when everyone is eating the served meal.”
