Woman walks out of airport after husband secretly brings mum on two-week holiday

A woman revealed she was so angry that she walked out of the airport and ditched her holiday after her mother-in-law turned up for the trip.

Many of us love a family holiday whether that’s just you and the kids or the whole extended family.

However, when you don’t get along with your in-laws it can cause tension when away.

If you didn’t know your in-laws were coming then the news that they’re packed and ready to go could turn your dream trip into a living nightmare.

That’s what happened to this anonymous traveller who claims she felt a "cold wave" washing over her when she spotted her husband's mum in the airport.

She was shocked to spot the family member as she had told her partner she wanted to spend the two weeks away as a pair.

However, despite the woman asking for a romantic trip – and having paid for the holiday herself – her husband secretly bought his mother tickets, reports the Mirror.

The situation meant that their marriage was at risk as the wife felt deeply hurt.

But, her husband didn’t think he’d done anything wrong.

"The day of the trip came and we got to the airport at 2pm," the 30-year-old wrote on Reddit. "My husband was walking ahead of me and was looking left and right like he was looking for someone.

"I asked him but he didn't respond. He lead me to the waiting area and first thing I saw was his mom standing there with her luggage.”

She continued: “I froze in my spot, I felt a cold wave washing over me and I was fuming inside. She and my husband were hugging.

"That's when I quietly turned around and started walking towards the exit. My husband followed me while shouting at me to stop.

"He tried to stop me but I told him off the harshest way possible.

“He tried to say I was overreacting and that his mom was there 'anyway' and I should let it go and not mess the trip up for us.

"I told him he and his mom could still go and that I was going home."

She left the airport, went home and cried with her dog.

The woman noted: "He didn't even pay for anything and I really wanted us to have some special time together as a couple and was really looking forward to having this trip.

"So much that I worked more hours to be able to save for it.

"An hour later he came home yelling and raging about how pathetic and spiteful I was to walk out and go home and ruin the trip last minute.

"I told him he caused this to happen. He said that I was being so hard on his mom it's ridiculous."

In the comments, over 2,000 people weighed in with most agreeing that the situation was untenable.

"You know that if you had sucked it up and gone with them, the entire vacation would be all about catering to his mum," one person wrote.

"Whatever she wanted to do. Whatever places she wanted to go, places she wanted to eat. You'd be the third wheel on your own vacation."

Another laughed: "You actually helped him and his mom to have the romantic getaway they really wanted."

A third noted: “If he doesn't cut the umbilical cord it's a dead relationship.”

While one even added: "He’s not a good man. He needs to go."

The horrified woman updated the tale by explaining she had moved out of their marital home and in with her sister.

She noted: “He sent me his last message telling I'm the one choosing to end what we had together but I believe it's the other way around, especially with how he keeps making his mom the victim in this situation.”
