World’s 50 Best Hotels 2023 named – and six are in the UK

The winners of The World’s 50 Best Hotels have just been announced at the inaugural event and two of them are in the US. Aman New York, which only opened in August 2022 came in at number five.

Judges described it as: “The epitome of understated luxury on Fifth Avenue.” It is New York’s most expensive hotel with rooms from $1,750 a night.

It resides in the iconic Beaux-Arts Crown Building. Other properties in the Aman stable also made the cut. Amangalla in Sri Lanka came in at number 38, Aman Tokyo at number five, and Aman Venice at number 14.

The Equinox New York, in the Hudson Yards development, is described as an: “Artful relaxation from a wellness giant in the city that never sleeps”. It sits at number 48.

Needless to say, it is an enormous gym that extends 60,000 sq ft with sleek rooms.

The top gong worldwide, however, goes to The Passalacqua which overlooks Lake Como in Italy and has only been open for just over a year.

The hotel, owned by the De Santis family, local hoteliers who also own the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, beat 21 other European hotels on the list. It has just 24 rooms and sits within an opulent 18th-century villa with “perfectly manicured terraced gardens”.

In London, where the awards were hosted, perennial favorite Claridges came in at number sixteen, with sister hotel, The Connaught at number 22.
