Yorkshire has been named Brits’ favourite summer holiday spot for 2023

Many Brits love to go on holiday each summer and spend time around sun, sand and sea.

However, with the cost-of-living crisis looming over lots of us a trip closer to home might be in the cards.

Studies show that 52% of Brits can’t see themselves booking a trip abroad this year due to budget.

But, 42% hope to take a last-minute trip within the UK and 37% say they’ll take a number of smaller trips throughout 2023.

Thankfully, for those choosing to go on a staycation this year the UK is full of beautiful hotspots.

Whether you want white sandy beaches, historical stately homes or rugged hiking trails there’s something for everyone.

Holiday home bookings site Sykes Holiday Cottages has now launched its annual Staycation Index report declaring the best ranked staycation spots for Brits.

Yorkshire came out at the top of the list – known for its picturesque coastal towns and rolling dales, it covers a huge area perfect for those who love culture, outdoor pursuits and quintessential seaside resorts.

You might head to Whitby to enjoy the stunning views, fish and chips and Dracula’s Castle.

Alternatively, head to Settle – England’s highest train station and a small village with hiking and scrambling trails a plenty.

Or, hop over to York to explore the Roman walls, visit the Jorvik centre and meander down the Shambles to check out the Harry Potter shops or even buy a ghost.

In second place was Cornwall, already famous for its coastline – although tourists have warned of rogue seagulls in the area!

The southerly part of England has plenty to do from the Eden Project to the Minack Theatre.

Plus, you can get surfing lessons at some stunning beaches or head to Tintagel to see King Arthur’s Castle.

In third place, was the Scottish Highlands and Islands known for their beautiful nature from rugged mountain with jagged peaks to beaches with crystal clear water.

In fact, the Isle of Coll is set to host the world's most remote nightclub for two days this year.

"And with financial pressures significantly impacting holidaymakers’ travel choices, it’s no surprise that holidaying closer to home remains a popular choice for many.

“The UK has so much to offer and there are so many beautiful regions to visit that mean you don’t have to compromise on your holiday experience."

He added: "From award-winning beaches to stunning countryside and city breaks, there are also plenty of hidden gems to be found in our home country.

“While the cost of living will be having a huge impact on the majority of people’s holiday plans this year, our research shows holidaymakers are opting for multiple shorter well-deserved breaks nearer to home without compromising on their holiday experience.”
