You and Your Pup Are Invited to the Virtual 'Indoguration' of Major Biden — the First Rescue Dog to Make It to the White House
The Biden-Harris administration is set to be historic for multiple reasons, but the cutest one is undoubtedly Major Biden, the first-ever rescue pup to become First Dog. In honor of Major's journey to the White House, the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) — the rescue shelter where Major once stayed — is inviting all canines to attend a virtual "indoguration" on Jan. 17.
The event will celebrate Major's new posting, while also raising funds for the DHA and increasing awareness of pet owners who are financially struggling to care for their furry friends. Hosted in conjunction with Pumpkin Pet Insurance, the "indoguration" emcee will be the Today show's Jill Martin, and special appearances are expected from Lindsey Vonn's three famous rescue dogs.
Major Biden will also be in attendance, of course.
To join in on the fun, dog owners are asked to donate a minimum of $10, with 100% of the funds directly supporting the DHA and its community services, including affordable veterinary care and the free pet food pantry. The DHA and Pumpkin Pet Insurance are hoping to have at least 1,000 attendees, making it the world's largest virtual party for dogs.
The event's participants will also have the opportunity to nominate their pup to be part of Major's Cabinet for the Secretary of Rescue Dogs. The top nominees will be announced during the virtual event, and the winner will be "elected" by Sir Darius Brown, philanthropist, animal advocate, and founder of Beaux & Paws. Though not all dogs can win the election, the top five nominees will still go home with a custom-made Sir Darius Brown bow tie.
"We are thrilled to participate in what will hopefully be the world's largest Zoom call for dogs," said Patrick J. Carroll, the DHA's executive director, in a statement. "2020 was a tough year for all of us financially — both for animal shelters and pet owners alike…With Major heading to the White House, it's our sincere hope that we can continue to connect more homeless animals with families than ever before. If a shelter dog is good enough for the White House, they're good enough for your house!"
