You can now book Maldives-style floating lodges in the UK from £52pp a night

Staying in a private villa on the water is what many holidaymakers dream of – but for most they immediately think of the Maldives.

The gorgeous honeymoon destination in the Indian Ocean certainly has sun, sea and sand, but it can also cost tens of thousands of pounds to get to.

If you’re looking for a staycation home where you can look straight out onto the water from your private lodge then you should look closer to home.

There’s a holiday resort right here in the UK – Devon, to be precise – that features floating villas on the edge of pretty English lakes.

Crawford Lakes is made up of 17 lakes surrounded by various accommodation including Lake Pods, Floating Lodges and Luxury Cocoons.

The compact Lake Pods sit on stilts above the water and have huge glass walls and terraces so you can stare out at the tranquil surroundings.

They’re complete with camping kitchens, bathrooms, double beds and TVs.

Plus, keen fishermen and women can launch their rod directly from their terrace to fish in the lake.

Pets are welcome too so you can bring your furry friends to explore!

Meanwhile the floating lodges are surrounded by lapping water and also have glass walls and a private deck just for you.

Luxury Cocoons sit on land, but are still surrounded by beautiful greenery – they’re made of steel and canvas but are nothing like a tent.

The luxe accommodation sleeps up to five people and have high quality finishes like a bath and super soft bedding.

The fabric of the lodges provides an infusion of soft natural light throughout the day – and on clear nights you can see the stars from your cocoon.

Each cocoon has a private deck, BBQ rack and fire pit.

Crawford Lakes Resort is a beautiful option for couples, and families, wanting to get back to nature – and cheap eats stay from £309pp.

That’s just £38 per night when split across a four night holiday! (For the overwater lodges, prices are about £52 per night).

The attractive holiday pods sit in 80 acres of wildlife so you can walk around taking in the sights and relaxing sounds of nature.

Plus, the site is just a half an hour drive from Bude – the incredible beach spot in Cornwall that’s beloved by beachgoers and surfers alike.

Facilities on site are also available from the tackle shop for any keen fishers to a luxury spa and pool.

You can choose treatments like botanical facials, reflexology, manicures, full body massages and even herbalist treatments.

And, there’s a handy restaurant and bar on site that’s child friends and serves tasty meals like crispy chilli squid, salads, fish and chips, burgers, curry and BBQ pork.
