You can sleep in a hotel made entirely of ice – from the beds to the bar
Holidaymakers looking to spend a few nights in an out-of-this-world winter wonderland should look no further.
The 33rd version of the iconic Icehotel in Sweden’s Lapland flung open its doors on Friday – and it’s utterly gorgeous.
As the name implies, the hotel is made completely of snow and ice all pulled from Torne River.

The Frozen-style accommodation is carved out of blocks of ice each year which are then stored in an ice warehouse.
The material – 10 Olympic swimming pools' worth – is then carefully cut into intricate designs and stunning rooms – and opens for guests come winter before melting back into the river a few months later.
Together with Icehotel's building and ice production team, artists from all over the world have created twelve art suites that you can sleep in through the coldest months of the year.
This year artists from Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Chile, Netherlands, Singapore, France, Japan, Canada, Bulgaria, Mongolia and Slovakia got involved in the build.
The hotel will remain open until April 22 and it's not just a destination for sleeping and snowy sights.
A new ceremony hall has been carved within the icy structure – it's named Embrace and is perfect for intimate celebrations.
Plus, the rest of the hotel is filled with art that you can explore during your stay.
The temperature of the ice hotel sits at -5C within the walls and there’s even an awe-inspiring crystal chandelier made from 100 handmade ice shards.
Luckily, you won’t see your breath when you’re sleeping as there are 44 warm hotel rooms and 28 warm chalets which are kept at a comfortable temperature.
However, for those who want the full experience there are 36 Winter Open Art Suites and ice rooms kept at -5C.
Plus, there’s an accessibility suite also kept at the icy cold temperature.
Those who want to get stuck into the accommodations services can head to the movie theatre made entirely of snow and ice.
There’s also an art exhibition room, ice bar, three restaurants and even wilderness camps.
In 2023, there are additional fun things to do too…
This winter guests will be able to sleep in an ice dome, a Japanese garden, under supersized mushrooms, among flowers and much more as the new designs are unveiled.
During the rest of the year guests can book in at Icehotel 360 which remains in place every day.
Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director Icehotel said: “Every year I’m amazed of what this incredible team can achieve; talented international artists, flanked by a team of ice-professionals, can really create magic. Welcome to Icehotel 33!”.
