Alterra agrees to acquire Schweitzer ski resort in Idaho
Alterra Mountain Company has entered into an agreement to purchase the Schweitzer ski area in Idaho.
The transaction is expected to close later this year, pending regulatory approval, Alterra said. The companies did not divulge the contracted purchase price.
Schweitzer would become Alterra’s 16th North American ski area. Located 80 miles northeast of Spokane, Wash., Schweitzer is the largest ski area in Idaho with 2,900 acres of terrain. The mountain has been on Alterra’s Ikon Pass since 2021.
Under the agreement, Schweitzer owner MKM Trust will retain non-ski operations at the resort, including real estate holdings.

Last year, Schweitzer opened the 31-unit Humbird, its first mountainside boutique resort. The Humbird project was a part of $100 million spent on improvements over the past decade, according to MKM.
Alterra’s other Northwest holding is Crystal Mountain in Washington. Alterra also counts major ski mountains such as Steamboat, Palisades Tahoe, Deer Valley, Mammoth Mountain and Stratton in its sizeable portfolio.
