Booking Holdings unveils Climate Action Plan: Travel Weekly
Booking Holdings on Tuesday released its Climate Action Plan, a framework intended to make the company and the industry more sustainable.
The company said the Climate Action Plan is “the first of its kind for any global online travel company.”
Booking Holdings outlines a three-pronged approach in its plan.
First is a commitment to sustainable operations and reduction of emissions. The company’s goal is net-zero emissions for its own operations by 2030, and net-zero emissions by 2040.
Second is a commitment to sustainable travel by making sustainable trips easier to book. Last year, Booking.com launched the Travel Sustainable program, offering badges to properties that have implemented sustainable travel.
Coming in the future is a wider rollout of the program across Booking Holdings brands, as well as to cars, rides and flights by the end of 2023.
Third is a commitment to reduce the larger travel industry’s carbon footprint by offering education for travel providers and funding.
The strategy outlined in the plan is aligned with the Paris Agreement. Adopted in Paris in 2015, the agreement’s goal is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.
