Club Med scuttles plan to operate Utah ski resort

Club Med has scrapped plans to develop its Club Med Utah mountain resort, which was to be the brand’s first new all-inclusive in the U.S. in more than 20 years. 

Plans for the property, which was to be developed as part of Utah’s Snowbasin ski resort, were unveiled in 2021. 

Amelie Brouhard, Club Med’s vice president of marketing and sales for North America, confirmed that the brand is no longer working on the project in Utah with Snowbasin, citing a delayed timeline.

“We decided that we could not afford to wait,” said Brouhard, adding that Club Med still plans to pursue a return to the U.S. with another year-round resort project at some point. 

In a statement, Bruce Fery, chairman and CEO of Snowbasin Resort’s parent company, Grand America Hotels & Resorts, said that the decision to halt the project came as Snowbasin “felt it right to reassess the path ahead.”

Snowbasin did not provide details on whether it plans to move forward in developing on-site lodging with another hospitality brand. Currently, Snowbasin does not operate any on-site lodging but does list a number of hotel and vacation rental partners on its website.

Snowbasin is home to 3,000 skiable acres and 12 lifts. It is approximately a 40-minute drive north of downtown Salt Lake City.
