For the first time since the pandemic began, Europe has reclaimed its title as the top booked destination for U.S. travelers, according to travel insurance comparison site Squaremouth.com.
Squaremouth said nearly 30% of its bookings from U.S. travelers in the month of June were for European travel, the highest percentage of Europe sales in 13 months.
Most of those bookings, 54%, are for travel next summer.
Europe has historically been Squaremouth’s top destination for U.S. travelers. In the past, as much as 46% of sales via the site have been for trips to Europe. But border closures due to Covid-19 changed that.
During the pandemic’s height, only 6% of sales were for Europe travel, and the percentage of bookings for domestic destinations spiked.
