Moxy is preparing to bring its playful approach to hotels to the Caribbean and Latin America.
The brand announced today that four Moxy projects have been approved for the Caribbean, Central America and South America. However, the brand only revealed the specific location of one of those projects thus far, a 165-room Moxy in Medellin, Colombia.
All of the new properties in the region are expected to come online by about 2020, the company said.
In anticipation of its expansion throughout the region, Moxy Hotels is preparing to host a pop-up experience in Medellín at SAHIC South America 2018, a Latin American hospitality and tourism investment conference.
Debuted in Europe in 2014, Marriott’s Moxy properties are known for being irreverent, playful and free-spirited. The brand aims to attract what it calls “the next generation of travelers.”
To that end, Moxy Hotels feature bold and contemporary styling, vibrant lobby spaces based around an amped-up bar experience, Instagram-worthy social zones, 24/7 self-service grab and go; ample plug-ins for personal devices and free Wi-Fi.
The brand also aims to please the budget-conscious travelers with its price-point.
“Who said that affordable hotels must be cheap-looking and dull? Who said that lifestyle hotels cannot have the same, or better, investor returns than the traditional select-service brand? You just need to know what the new customer really wants and be smart on the design and execution,” said Laurent de Kousemaeker, chief development officer, Marriott International Caribbean and Latin America.
Since launching, Moxy has grown to include nearly 30 operating hotels and more than 90 properties in its development pipeline globally. Worldwide, Moxy Hotels is on pace to double its current portfolio by 2020.
