W Philadelphia celebrates grand opening
The W Philadelphia, housed in a 51-story tower in the city’s downtown, is celebrating its official opening on Aug. 20.
The property is the first W hotel to open in the U.S. since the W Aspen in 2019. The W Philadelphia shares its building with a 460-room Element by Westin that opened in May. W and Element are Marriott International brands.
The W Philadelphia has 295 guestrooms, including 39 suites. There are notes of traditional Pennsylvania craftsmanship, such as Shaker-style chairs at each workspace. The words of the Declaration of Independence, signed in Philadelphia in 1776, are etched in graffiti-style font on a custom light fixture in the guestrooms.
The hotel’s six suite categories boast oversized soaking tubs, private balconies and ornate details including Danby marble and Chesterfield-style furnishings. The Wow and Extreme Wow Suites include custom foosball and billiard tables as well as in-room DJ booths.
The W Philadelphia features an extensive artwork collection, including abstract murals celebrating urban gardens to oil and digital print portraits of the city’s famous musicians, much of it exclusively commissioned by the hotel and by local artists.
The hotel has hired Joshua Lang as resident DJ and music curator, booking other DJ talent for the property’s multiple common areas, including the Living Room, which will serve coffee during the day and cocktails at night.
The Wet Deck on the seventh floor includes a heated pool for year-round use with green and blue custom tiles and a bar. A greenspace dubbed Secret Garden will host local pop-ups and live music performances focused on local talent.
The W Philadelphia’s signature restaurant is Dolce, with a menu of regional Italian dishes.
The Away Spa includes five treatment rooms and encourages socializing with a lounge, beauty bar and the option of booking the space for private events with a DJ. The hotel offers a fitness center open 24 hours a day.
The W Philadelphia also has 45,000 square feet of event space, including 37 meeting rooms designed to mimic the feeling of private recording studios.
“Philadelphia is ready to ring free and we are excited to open our doors and change the city’s social scene as only W can,” general manager Edward Baten said in a statement. “This hotel is an homage to the city and the people who define it. By embracing its history through art and design to celebrating its present through local talent and brands that can’t be found anywhere else, W Philadelphia delivers an inspired local experience for the global guest.”
