But they are requalified and retested before being cleared to fly passengers again.\u00a0<\/p>\n Pilots\u00a0who have\u00a0been out for more than 90 days return to the simulator for training.\u00a0If they have gone\u00a0than 90 days but less than 180 days without flying, they undergo\u00a0extensive ground school followed by a multi-day transition course\u00a0of simulator flights and a checkride\u00a0and in-flight training. (If they\u00a0haven’t flown for more than 180 days or if they are moving to a different airplane, they go through\u00a0initial\u00a0training.)\u00a0<\/p>\n Finally, they undergo a checkride in an actual plane, known as a line check.\u00a0Testing is to the initial qualification standards for competency.\u00a0<\/p>\n Although\u00a0some pilots have reported feeling rusty\u00a0in the cockpit, it is important to remember that these are professional pilots who have years of experience flying. They recover their skills quickly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
