The Dorchester Collection’s flagship Dorchester hotel in London is on track to debut the first stage of a phased renovation this September.

In collaboration with designers Pierre-Yves Rochon and the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the luxury property is receiving a variety of updates, including a refreshed hotel entrance. Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by new lighting, a landscaped garden area and an enhanced forecourt, featuring green granite flooring.

Also getting an update are the hotel’s guestrooms and suites, which will showcase an English garden-inspired color palette of pale green, rose pink, heather blue or lemon yellow. The property will be adding a number of more spacious signature and junior suites, which the Dorchester said will provide “more residential-style accommodations.”

Dorchester restaurants and bars will be similarly be revamped, including its Promenade lounge, which hosts the hotel’s afternoon tea. The Promenade is set to receive a new “destination” section, which the hotel promises will be “a glamorous and sparkling area for fun and frivolous evenings of Champagne, seafood and entertainment.”

The hotel’s bar is getting a full redesign, including a new layout that will allow for a dedicated entrance and an outdoor terrace. Inspired by the 1930s, the bar will feature ornate design elements, including a Palladium-leaf ceiling.

The bar will be home to a series of artworks by British photographer Cecil Beaton, as well as pieces by contemporary London-based artist Rosie Emerson.

The Dorchester also will unveil an all-new retail concept, Cake & Flowers. The store, which will have its own entrance, will offer a selection of pastries and cakes, gift baskets, floral bouquets, Champagnes and chocolates.

During the renovation, the Dorchester remains open to guests, with the property’s The Grill, Alain Ducasse and China Tang restaurants continuing to operate. The spa also is open.

The hotel’s afternoon tea has been temporarily relocated to the Orchid Room, while a Mediterranean dining concept will be available at the Dorchester Rooftop throughout the summer.

The Dorchester, which opened in 1931, last underwent a large-scale renovation in 1989.
