Marriott International has struck a deal with Mexico’s Hoteles City Express to acquire the City Express brand portfolio for $100 million.<\/p>\n
In acquiring City Express, Marriott said it is making a foray into the “affordable midscale segment.”<\/p>\n
The brand portfolio includes the City Express, City Express Plus, City Express Suites, City Express Junior and City Centro flags. Most of the 152 hotels are in Mexico, and a few are in Costa Rica, Colombia and Chile.<\/p>\n
The deal is expected to close by first half of 2023, after which point Marriott will update the City Express brand name with the addition of “by Marriott.”<\/p>\n
City Express will be Marriott’s 31st brand.<\/p>\n
