South African Airways will resume transatlantic flying in the fall with two routes to Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Twice-weekly service between Cape Town and Sao Paulo will begin Oct. 31, and twice-weekly service between Johannesburg and Sao Paulo starts on Nov. 6.

The routes will be the first long-haul operations that the formerly state-owned South African Airways has operated since re-emerging under private control from a pandemic-time shutdown and restructuring in September 2021.

CEO John Lamola said Sao Paulo was selected after a rigorous analysis of the viability of the route.

“Sustainability has been at the heart of SAA’s approach since our restart,” Lamola said.
