<\/p>\nA deadly heatwave is sweeping Europe \u2013 with the hottest temperature reaching a sweltering 45C.<\/p>\n
This week, parts of Italy and Greece could potentially surpass the 48.8C record set in Sicily in 2021.<\/p>\n
And as extreme heat contributed to more than 60,000 deaths last year, people are understandably worried.<\/p>\n

So is it possible to cancel your holiday due to the heat? And will you be refunded if so?<\/p>\n
Here's everything you need to know…<\/p>\n
If you are travelling to the south of Europe, it's likely you will be impacted.<\/p>\n

Spain is one of the countries that has been affected.<\/p>\n
Not only is it extremely hot, with wild fires have been burning on the Canary Island of La Palma.<\/p>\n
Similarly, six seaside communities were evacuated in Greece due to wild fires.<\/p>\n
And Italy has also issued hot weather alerts for 20 cities \u2013 including Rome and Florence.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, other affected countries include Cyprus, Turkey, Croatia, France, Germany and Poland.<\/p>\n
We'd recommend checking the Foreign Office website for more specific information about your destination before travelling.<\/p>\n

It's unlikely you will be refunded if you cancel your holiday \u2013 unless the Foreign Office issues official guidance not to fly.<\/p>\n
The weather is out of airlines' control, which makes refunds or compensation tricky.<\/p>\n
Despite this, it could be worth asking travel firms to see if you can get the money refunded. Or some may offer vouchers or flight credit if you air your concerns.<\/p>\n
As well as this, there may be a way to get money off your travel insurance provider if you have a medical condition that's impacted by the heat.<\/p>\n
It's always worth asking the question if you have concerns \u2013 and checking the fine print of your bookings.<\/p>\n
