Royal Caribbean International has canceled two sailings on the Radiance of the Seas, citing propulsion problems on the 22-year-old ship.

Problems began as the ship returned to Seward, Alaska, at the end of a seven-night sailing. Royal said the ship “experienced a technical issue with its propulsion system,” which led to the cancellation of the Sept. 1 cruise. Royal said it is unable to complete the repairs in time for the Sept. 8 sailing and has notified travel advisors and guests about the cancellation.

Repairs are underway and the ship is expected to sail as planned on Sept. 15 from Seward, a spokeswoman said.

Customers affected by the cancellations will receive a full refund of the fare paid for the cruise, plus a 100% future cruise credit toward a future sailing departing within one year, Cruise Industry News reported.

The publication said the line will also reimburse guests for nonrefundable pre-purchased travel fees on air, hotel, train ticket or rental car expenses. Royal will cover up to $250 per guest for domestic changes and up to $500 per guest for international changes.
