The Carnival Celebration will be like her sister, but not exactly
Carnival Cruise Line on Thursday revealed a handful of details about the Carnival Celebration, the line’s second Excellence-class ship coming this November.
Like its sister ship, the Mardi Gras, the Celebration will have a three-deck atrium on the starboard side. However, the ceiling will be different on the Celebration, featuring 1,400 color-changing lighting fixtures that will “appear as a burst of a confetti cannon,” Carnival said.
As on the Mardi Gras, floor-to-ceiling windows in the Celebration’s atrium will change into LED screens during events such as live music and acrobatic performances.
The atrium will be in Celebration Central, one of six zones on the ship. Celebration Central also will be home to JavaBlue Café, Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki, Piano Bar 88 and the Punchliner Comedy Club.
A blend of the old and the new
Carnival’s frequent guests will notice items from former Carnival ships that will be repurposed on the Celebration.
For example, in the Aquaria Bar, ocean-themed glass murals from the Carnival Victory by Italian artist Luciano Vistosi will be incorporated into a two-deck-high decorative wall behind the bar to create an aquarium-like effect.
And the Tropicale Bar is named after Carnival’s first newbuild ship, the Tropicale, which entered service in 1982.
“From a design perspective, we are incorporating elements from our former ships, paying homage to the history of Carnival, and also showcasing Carnival Celebration as a modern, innovative and forward-looking vessel,” said Ben Clement, Carnival’s senior vice president of newbuilds, refurbishment and product innovation.
“While similar to Mardi Gras with a plethora of options for dining, entertainment and relaxation, Celebration will have her own personality, one that celebrates all things Carnival, intertwining where we have been with where we are going.”
Lightning strikes twice
Bolt, the first roller coaster at sea on the Mardi Gras, is coming to the Celebration, too. Motorcycle-inspired vehicles will race along an 800-foot track above the Celebration’s top deck, reaching speeds up to 40 mph.
Also part of the Ultimate Playground zone on decks 18-20: the WaterWorks aqua park and SportSquare featuring a mini-golf course, full-court basketball and a exhilarating ropes course.
Favorites from Guy Fieri and Shaq
The Summer Landing zone on Deck 8 will feature Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, offering smoked meats created by Guy Fieri and Carnival’s ParchedPig craft beers brewed on site. The zone also will be home to the Watering Hole poolside bar and the Heroes Tribute Lounge honoring military personnel.
As on the Mardi Gras, the Celebration’s poolside Lido zone will feature the RedFrog Tiki Bar, Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Chicken restaurant, Guy’s Burger Joint, Seafood Shack and BlueIguana Cantina.
Additional details and zones on the Carnival Celebration will be revealed in the coming months leading up to the ship’s inaugural sailing from Miami on Nov. 21, Carnival said.
