A boutique resort opens on Statia
St. Eustatius, also known as Statia, unveiled its first upscale boutique resort with the opening of Golden Rock Resort on the southeast side of the island.
The resort entered the market as the largest hospitality development in Statia’s history.
“We’re committed to reimaging Statia and boosting the destination’s tourism while keeping the authentic idyl island experience to serve as the foundation for our brand identity,” said Peter Barnhoorn, CEO of Golden Rock.
The small island is known for its hiking trails, dive sites and national parks, and Golden Rock’s adventures arranged by the resort’s activities team include daily hikes and dive excursions.
The 32-nature-inspired guestrooms and suites feature modern finishes and ocean views. All accommodations offer private balconies and contemporary decor. The resort plans to add 27 oceanfront villas to its current roster in April as well as a beach club with an infinity pool later in the year.
Facilities include two spa-treatment rooms, gym, pool, tennis/basketball court, outdoor play area for children.
Sustainable systems range from solar panels to a reverse osmosis machine to convert salt water to fresh and filters to clean dirty water for use in irrigation systems.
Golden Rock’s Breeze restaurant features local produce and Caribbean dishes. The resort’s soon-to-open vegetable garden will supply fresh ingredients for use in menus and in craft cocktails.
