‘Best hotel in the UK’ for budget stays has been crowned – rooms under £40

Premier Inn is a big name in the UK, but it has been pipped to the post in a new ranking of the “best large hotel chains” in the UK by its very own budget offshoot known as hub by Premier Inn. Premier Inn’s hub is a smaller, cosier offering from the Premier Inn family, which currently only has locations in London and Edinburgh.

Consumer experts from Which? collected feedback from thousands of hotel guests across the UK to draw up a table of the UK’s “best” large hotel chain brands, and the second and third spots were taken up by the budget-friendly offering from hub by Premier Inn and Premier Inn.

Premier Inn has more than 800 hotels to choose from across the UK, with airport, city and seaside locations to choose from. The hotel chain also has its smaller hub offering in Edinburgh and London. Some rooms are on offer for less than £50.

Though both areas of the brand scored highly, hub by Premier Inn beat its larger sibling, with each achieving a customer score of 77 percent and 75 percent respectively.

While rooms at the hub locations are designed to be smaller, they are planted in the heart of huge locations, promising easy access to some of London and Edinburgh’s most popular attractions. And, they come with a few “luxury” amenities you might not expect from a hotel that often has stays on offer for less than £40 a night.

hub by Premier Inn promises “smart, stylish rooms across London and Edinburgh at great prices”. Amenities include a “luxury” double bed, or a king-size bed for those in bigger rooms, fresh tea and coffee available 24/7, monsoon showers, a 40” smart TV in every room, pull out desk and chairs for those who need to do a little bit of work on the go and, of course, that all-important WiFi. Guests can also set the mood with lighting and temperature controls, without ever leaving their bed.

Each of its compact rooms are also said to be designed for “comfort”, including underbid storage to ensure you don’t feel cluttered in the space.

According to Which?’s customer satisfaction survey, rooms scored five stars for cleanliness and four-stars overall. If you’re after a good nights sleep, previous guests rated the comfort of beds five out of five stars, meanwhile breakfast scored an average three out of five stars.

Overall, guests said the description of the hotel matches reality, giving it five stars in this area, though Wi-Fi only scored three out of five stars.

Though the average room price guests paid came in at £118, Express.co.uk has found rooms available for less than £40.
