‘I tried a tip to visit top attractions for less and found savings over £30′
The price of a package holiday to top destinations such as Spain and Portugal has soared by as much as 20 percent according to statistics from TravelSupermarket.
Even if you’ve found a cheap deal on flights or managed to save on a hotel booking (Travelodge has rooms for less than £38 in 2023), Britons could find extra charges quickly add up. Whether Britons are jetting off abroad or opting for a staycation, ticket prices to top attractions can send the price of a holiday soaring.
I wanted to see if I could save money on tickets to some of the world’s top attractions by booking online in advance rather than on the door.
While the results varied, I found you can save as much as £30 by booking online instead of on the door for some top-rated attractions.
Thorpe Park, Surrey
Thorpe Park is one of the UK’s biggest theme parks and is usually packed with visitors during the summer holidays. Buying a ticket on the door can cost as much as £64.
I found that buying a ticket ahead of time online could save £32 with an adult’s entry costing just £32 from the website. Visitors with an online ticket can also skip the queue by scanning it on their mobile.

Tourists can also save money by booking tickets for the London Eye in advance. The attraction recommends tourists book a time slot ahead of time but tickets can be purchased on the day.
However, tourists could be charged far more if they buy a ticket on the day. Prices vary depending on demand so a busy day could see tourists charged more than the £30.50 ticket price online.

Stonehenge, Wiltshire
Stonehenge is one of the UK’s most famous attractions and a must-see for anyone who wants to learn more about the country’s ancient history.
Visitors can save 10 percent on the price of a ticket if they book online. I found you can also easily choose the cheapest time to visit as Stonehenge’s website has an off peak calendar where tourists can find the best price.
Casa Batilo, Barcelona
In Barcelona, tourists can save between four (£3.42) to 12 euros (£10.25) by booking a ticket to Gaudi’s famous Casa Batilo online rather than on the door.
I found it’s always worth checking whether booking online could be cheaper than paying on the door. Even if you can’t save money, an online ticket could help you skip the queue.
However, tourists might want to avoid some popular attractions altogether due to overcrowding.
