‘Incredible’ city is one of this year’s best winter staycation destinations

With Christmas just around the corner, there’s no better time to plan a cosy winter staycation for December or January.

The expert travel team at Airbnb have shared this year’s most popular trending staycation destinations on the booking platform.

While there’s a few gorgeous rural destinations on the list, one of this year’s most popular winter hotspots is Bath.

One of the UK’s prettiest cities, Bath is packed with historic sites and cosy cafes to shelter from the cold.

The Roman Baths are the city’s leading attraction and one of the UK’s best preserved Roman landmarks.

Bath Abbey is another popular attraction. ‘Tasha B’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “The best experience in Bath. The views were incredible.”

If relaxation is top of the priority list, there’s no better place to unwind than the city’s Thermae Bath Spa. With a rooftop pool, it has breathtaking city views.

Tourists can also wander the city’s pretty streets and admire the historic Georgian buildings or curl up in a cafe with a book.

Make sure to taste one of the city’s iconic Bath buns, a sweet roll sprinkled with fruit and sugar, at one of Bath’s tearooms. Bath also has a rival bun, the Sally Lunn.

The Sally Lunn bun is a brioche type bun that’s only made at famous Sally Lunn’s. Locals are divided over which is the tastier treat.

Bookworms will love the Jane Austen Centre which looks at the life of one of the country’s most famous authors. Jane lived in the city for a while and it even features in her novel, Persuasion.

From the end of November and throughout December, the city hosts its annual Christmas Market in the city centre. Grab a mulled wine and soak up the atmosphere.
