We’ve all felt annoyed when our luggage is finally packed but it comes in over the weight allowance for our flight.

Unless you’re willing to risk being charged huge amounts this usually means you’ll have to remove some of your stuff before going on holiday, which can be frustrating when you’ve planned your wardrobe.

But, one woman seems to have found a rather bizarre solution that let her take far more clothing on board her flight than usual.

The social media post first went viral in 2019, but has been doing the rounds once more ahead of the summer holidays as Brits look for crafty tricks to get around luggage rules.

Gel Rodriguez, from the Philippines, decided to wear a massive 2.5kg of clothes rather than pack them in her carry-on luggage.

Gel’s bag had exceeded the seven kilograms she was allowed to bring on board, with airline staff reportedly telling her her bag weighed nine kilos and she'd be charged for the excess.

However, Gel refused to accept the fee.

She explained at the time: "When the airline staff at the check in counter said 'Only seven kilos is allowed in hand luggage'. Me: 'No problem'."

Gel took her baggage from nine kilos to just 6.5 by loading herself up with multiple tops, trousers and jackets.

The determined traveller layered the items on top of one another until she reduced her suitcase to the allowed weight.

Gel told Vice: "I didn't want to pay the fee for the excess baggage because it was only two kilograms (4.4 lbs)."

However, she wouldn’t necessarily choose to do the same again saying she was "really hot".

That’s not surprising considering she wad wearing five t-shirts, three jackets and three pairs of bottoms.

Gel isn’t the only person to try and trick their way past weight allowances.

TikTok user Larissa, @is.me.larry, chose to stuff a neck pillow with clothing.

She wandered through the airport terminal with the pillow full of soft items and managed to get an extra 6kg of luggage on board.

Larissa said she managed to save the equivalent of £67 in baggage fees with the hack.

She added: "I didn’t put any metal things inside..only soft cloths bcs it will run trough the scan."
