Princess offers peek at entertainment options on the Sun Princess

FORT LAUDERDALE — Princess Cruises on Wednesday revealed the shows that will be featured on the new Sun Princess, the line’s first Sphere-class ship coming in February.

Entertainment will be performed in three venues: The Dome, the Piazza and the Princess Arena.

The Dome, a glass-enclosed venue atop the ship, will feature three shows from Cirque Eloize: “Come Fly Away,” “Blue” and “Artbeat.” Princess said the space will have a South Beach vibe.

At Travel Weekly’s CruiseWorld show here on Wednesday, Princess president John Padgett described “Come Fly Away” as the “intersection of Rat Pack music with Cirque du Soleil.”

The Princess Arena will be home to three new shows and a reimagined one.

“Vallora, A Pirate Quest” was created, directed and choreographed by Danny Teeson, who previously created “Rock Opera” for the Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess. Vallora has an ’80s soundtrack, including the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams,” Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” Chicago’s “You’re the Inspiration” and Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.” The show follows the heroine Vallora through a pirate adventure, telling a story of searching for what’s lost and, above all else, family and love.

“Stage Struck” is a celebration of musical theater, featuring “On Broadway” from “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” “Danced All Night” from “My Fair Lady,” “Take Me or Leave Me” from “Rent” and “One Night Only” from “Dreamgirls.” It is directed and choreographed by Karen Bruce of “So You Think You Can Dance” for the BBC and many shows on the West End.

“Viva La Musica” features Latin hits like Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine’s “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” Camila Cabello’s “Havana,” Santana’s version of “Oye Como Va” and Pete Rodriguez’s “I Like It Like That.” The show is from Liz Imperio, who has choreographed concert tours for Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Gloria Estefan.

Danny Teeson’s “Fiera!” will be reimagined on the Sun Princess. The show tells the story of love blossoming at a turn-of-the-last-century European fairground and features a medley of songs such as Guns & Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”

The Sun Princess’ atrium — Princess calls this space on all its ships the Piazza — will double as a theater. The space is surrounded by a multi-tiered sphere of glass and will host musical acts, game shows and Princess’ famed Champagne Waterfall, which the line says will be “elevated.” Princess called it an “exciting evolution.”

The Sun Princess’ maiden cruise will be a 10-day voyage between Barcelona and Rome scheduled to depart on Feb. 8. The 4,300-passenger ship will sail Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale during the winter 2024-25 season.
