Loved by British holidaymakers, the Baleriac island of Ibiza is famous for its wild parties with celebrity guests. Nightclubs regularly pull in thousands of British guests at the crazy end of summer parties.

Tough Baleriac local government restrictions have threatened to ruin British tourists’ summers as Ibiza nightclubs face harsh rules.

A group of DJs and nightclub producers in Ibiza have released an angry video raging at the strict curfews.

The Association of DJs and Producers in Ibiza and Formentara (DIPEF) accused regional officials of “demonising” Ibiza’s nightlife.

In a statement they said: “We have faced more closures than anywhere else in the world.

“Neither our politicians or the Balearic government have found a solution for a problem that is impacting thousands of people.”

The DJs said they did not understand why “Ibiza’s nightlife was being demonised when it could open under the necessary security measures.”

Ibiza’s nightclubs have been closed for almost two years. A pilot party held at Ibiza’s Hard Rock Hotel earlier this summer was seen as successful.

The party was attended by 200 vaccinated essential workers and guests wore face masks throughout the rave.

After tourists including Brits returned to Ibiza, cases of Covid began to rise on the island and plans to reopen nightclubs were scrapped.

Jose Benitez, president of the Leisure Association of Ibiza, said: “Despite the fact that the Hard Rock Hotel event was an undeniable success with zero infections as a result, the main clubs on the island have not been able to hold a single party since.”

In the absence of official Ibiza parties, illegal raves and wild villa parties have popped up all over the island.

After the illegal Ibiza parties caused a rise in cases, shops were forbidden from selling alcohol after 10pm.

Social gatherings between mixed households were also banned after 1am, in an aim to stop illegal parties.

Although British tourism in the Balearics is on the rise, continuing nightlife restrictions in Ibiza are expected to put many party-loving Brits off.

In past years, Ibiza parties were attended by Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Justin Bieber and Craig David.

Early 2000s Ibiza was recently voted as the club scene most Britons would be eager to see come back, in research by Virgin Media.

Without the parties, British tourists are forced to return to their villas by 1am with no mixing between houses after curfew.

Ibiza has seen a decline in Covid cases and boasts a good vaccination rate which could be a sign of hope for its famous parties.

Spain and the Baleriacs are currently on the UK Government’s amber-list which means double-vaccinated passengers must take a pre-departure test before returning to the UK.

They must also take a PCR test on or before day two after arrival, under current regulations.

Updates to the tourist travel regulations are expected on October 1 and travel experts are calling for looser restrictions.
