The expert team at Property Guides have analysed the best destinations for British expats in 2022. The team judged locations based on the cost of living, security, job opportunities and other important factors.
British expats looking to move further afield could even consider moving to Australia in 2022. Christopher Nye, senior editor at Property Guides said: “With Adelaide recruiting a minimum of 5,000 skilled migrants a year, the City of Churches could be your next move.
“Often overlooked in favour of Australia’s larger cities, the South Australian city offers a country-vibe with just over one million residents and far more affordable real estate.
“The median property price in Adelaide is AUD $750,000 (£390,000) two hundred thousand less than in Sydney.
“It’s cooler in every sense too, averaging a comfortable 22 degrees, perfect for enjoying the almost 100km of beach.”
The coastal city in southern Australia is known for cosmopolitan festivals and nearby wine regions.
Adelaide is one of the most affordable Australian cities, making it a great choice for expats who want to move Down Under on a budget.
Switzerland was named as the best expat country in the world in the last HSBC Expat Insider rankings and Christopher said one city is a frontrunner for 2022.
He said: “In 2021, Switzerland ranked fourth on the World Happiness Index. Perhaps that has something to do with the colossal wages available to you if you work in the right industries, with the average expat salary clocking in at $200,000 (£149,192).
“In addition to wages, come to Zurich for a relaxed political climate, first-class transport connections, fresh alpine air and exciting outdoor activities all year round.”
The global centre of banking and finance, Zurich has many pretty waterfront promenades and a picturesque Old Town.
British expats who want to stay close to the UK could consider just moving a short hop across the sea.
Christopher said: “In 2021, Irish people themselves voted Clonakilty the runaway favourite Best Place to Live in Ireland.
“The judges declared Clonakilty ‘a progressive and forward-looking community which champions inclusivity and diversity, a trailblazing town which may be seen as a blueprint for other towns globally’.
“A choice of a dozen sandy beaches and relaxed cafe culture might just seal the deal?”
While there are many fantastic city destinations for expats, for some living by the beach has always been the dream.
Christopher said: “Beachside living in the summer, skiing in the winter and limitless opportunity for hiking, cycling, horse riding and golfing, Limassol on Cyprus’ southern coast is perfect for those moving in pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.
“It’s our sunniest choice too, with around 3,650 hours of sunshine. You can snap up city centre apartments from 120,000 euros (£99,765) or villas from 340,000 euros (£282,667).”
