Joe Biden has confirmed double vaccinated Britons will be able to travel to the US restriction-free from November.

Fully-jabbed Britons, as well as EU citizens, will be able to enter the US from November.

After almost two years of travel restrictions, the US travel ban has finally been lifted.

Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps said on Twitter: “Brilliant collaboration through our UK/US working group has led to Transatlantic flights resuming from Nov for double jabbed!

“Great outcome thanks to @BorisJohnson & @POTUS @PeteButtigieg @SecretaryPete.”

The news comes just after Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in New York to attend the UN General Assembly before a visit to the White House.

Currently, anyone who has been in the UK in the previous 14 days can’t enter the US.

Many travellers were excited with the news: “Can not wait!!!!” said Twitter user Sam Bernon.

However, it is still unsure what the rules for the unvaccinated under 18 will be and many wondered on social media with one user, Kelly Baxendale, asking: “And under 18s not double jabbed?”

Airlines and travel agents have reacted to the good news.

Sean Doyle, British Airways CEO and Chairman said: “Today’s news, which will see our two nations reunited after more than 18 months apart, marks an historic moment and one which will provide a huge boost to Global Britain as it emerges from this pandemic.

“We are immensely grateful to the Prime Minister and his Government for all the hard work that’s gone into securing this deal with the US, and which builds upon last Friday’s announcement on the lifting of many travel restrictions.

“Our customers should now feel that the world is re-opening to them and they can book their trips with confidence.”

British Airways also reported a large increase in searches for travel to the US. In the hours following reports around the reopening of the US-UK travel corridor this November, British Airways Holidays saw an increase of nearly 700 percent in searches for holidays to key US destinations compared to the same time last week. These included New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, Miami, Los Angeles and Boston.”

Thomas Cook CEO, Alan French, said: “Christmas has come early for everyone hankering for a holiday to the States.

“The announcement is great news for our customers who’ve been desperate to get to Disney or craving a trip to the Big Apple.

“We would expect to see an immediate spike in demand for pre-Christmas shopping trips to New York and some winter sun getaways in Florida in particular as people take advantage of the new rules.”

Nicky Kelvin, travel expert and Head of the Points Guy UK commented: “After a long 18-months, the much-awaited relaxation of the rules would mean many families can be reunited, relationships can be rekindled.

“Postponed holidays can finally be taken and face-to-face business can be resumed.

“Given that the London-New York route was one of the busiest international air corridors in the world pre-pandemic, the relaxing of the travel ban is a major step forward, not just for Brits but for the global travel industry.

“As a true marker of how significant the rumoured news is, shares in IAG, the parent company of British Airways, have shot up by over 11 percent,” he said.
