UK’s most breathtaking autumn walk is ‘ripped straight from a fairy tale’

Ready to explore the UK this autumn? One of the UK’s most gorgeous seasonal walks can be found in the Peak District national park.

The outdoor experts at Blacks have rounded up some of the UK’s best hikes for the autumn season.

A spokesperson recommended a three mile hike at Mam Tor in the Peak District as one of the best spots for a walk this autumn.

They said: “Emerging from Hope Valley in the Peak District is the much-visited Mam Tor, a peak that offers amazing views of the autumnal woodland, rolling hills and little towns in the valley below.

“There are several easy terrain paths that lead to its 517m high summit, and it’s a favourite of dog walkers, children and older people.”

Mam Tor means ‘mother hill’ and it earned its name from the frequent landslips that have created a multitude of mini hills on the eastern side of Mam Tor.

The spokesperson added: “Along with its 360 degree views of the Peak District, Mam Tor leads to many other points of interest, for anyone wanting to carry on their hike or run.

“Such interesting features as caves and caverns, a Norman castle and a secret valley that looks like it’s been ripped straight from a fairy tale can be explored. Not to mention the many pubs in the town of Castleton to end your day at.”

A tourist ‘Rob’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “A hard but rewarding hike. A killer hike, beautiful views, highs and lows and weak legs by the end. Very busy with people but that can’t be helped at such a spot.”

‘Rebecca-Anne’ said: “Breathtaking views. I love the circular walk up Mam Tor from Castleton, it’s quite a trek as we take one of the more difficult routes. It’s all good exercise though and well worth the stunning views at the top.”

In Castleton village, tourists can explore caves with incredible stalactite formations on a guided tour.

The village is also packed with cosy pubs where tired tourists can unwind after the Mam Tor ascent. If Mam Tor sounds a little daunting, there’s a huge range of walks in the area.
