Visitors at UK’s ‘worst landmark’ fume it’s ‘too touristy’ and ‘expensive’

New research shows that the UK is home to half of the most complained about monuments in the world.

Tourists apparently aren’t big fans of many of Britain’s most iconic buildings and sights.

While the Palace of Versailles, in France, took the top spot in a list of the most-complained about tourist spots the UK made up most of the top 10.

The nation's most complained about attraction was Blackpool Tower despite plenty to see and do at the iconic landmark, such as the ballroom, 3D cinema and restaurants.

However its popularity hasn't proven a hit with everyone, as the iconic seaside monument was dubbed “too touristy” by visitors, reports ivisa.

While the 518ft tower has been amusing Brits since 1894 it seems many people think it’s not worth the trop.

Over on TripAdvisor, some commenters complained about the price of entry.

While others said the “steps were slippery” and that the tower “lacks customer service”.

Not everyone was disappointed though as the tower has over 5,000 “excellent” reviews.

"This attraction never gets boring we've been coming here for year and we still love it," one fan wrote. "The staff here are always very helpful the view from the top is just amazing specially on clear sunny day we love taking the grand kids."

Other British monuments that people complained about include Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

It may be thousands of years old, but it seems plenty of people have a gripe with the standing stones.

Some people noted that they couldn’t “get up close and personal” with the towering stones.

Others said there was a lack of information at the site.

On TripAdvisor, some guests said they were “disappointed” by Stonehenge.

One person said that the stones were “magnificent” but that the audio guides weren’t the best while another reviewer also noted that it was very “cold” with lots of “wind and rain”.

It's not the first time Stonehenge has faced unimpressed visitors – it's previously been labelled 'dumb old rocks' in a scathing verdict.

Big Ben, in London, also made it onto the list of the top 10 most complained about sights.

Some people complained about the long lines to get inside and the crowds around the clock tower.

Plus, lots of people took issue with the renovations and scaffolding that’s been in place since 2017.

Included on the top 10 list was also the Angel of the North in Gateshead.

People noted that the statue “was just a giant metal stick" based in a "gritty industrial area".

York Minster was also on the list thanks to high entrance fees and crowds of visitors.

Just over the Irish Sea the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland was also criticised in the research.

Apparently the heavy tourist crowds made visitors think that the stunning natural wonder wasn’t “worth the hassle”.
