Seaworld Entertainment's park attendance dipped in Q2

Inclement weather negatively impacted attendance at SeaWorld Entertainment’s theme parks in the second quarter.

At 6.1 million guests, attendance was down about 100,000 from last year’s Q2. During the company’s Q2 earnings call on Tuesday, CEO Marc Swanson blamed the weather, related construction delays and a shift in the timing of opening new rides.  

“Some combination of unusually hot and cold weather, rain, and/or the fallout from Canadian wildfires impacted most of our markets during the quarter,” Swanson said.

However, he also said attendance grew at some parks and that per capita spending was up for the 17th consecutive quarter. 

SeaWorld opened its first park outside the U.S., SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, in the second quarter, and attendance has been ahead of expectations, the CEO said. He teased more international expansion plans in the future.

Swanson said SeaWorld is making progress with its plan to open its first hotels. The company is shooting for 2026, but SeaWorld hasn’t announced anything definite, including locations.

SeaWorld reported Q2 revenue of $496 million, a 1.7% decrease. Net income was down 25%, to $87.1 million.
