Airlines ramp up U.S.-Tahiti service

Airlines are ramping up flights from Tahiti to the United States following the reopening of the Tahitian islands to U.S. tourists on May 1.

Air Tahiti Nui has resumed flights from the Tahitian capital of Papeete to Los Angeles after a nearly three-month suspension and will be flying the route four times weekly beginning next week.

Meanwhile, Air France is scheduled to resume Papeete-LAX service on May 16 for the first time since March 2020, according to Cirium flight schedule data.

On June 3, discount carrier French Bee is scheduled to resume its Tahiti-San Francisco flights, with United following on the same route the following day with three-times weekly service.

Hawaiian Airlines is scheduled to resume Tahiti-Honolulu flights on July 3.

In total, carriers are currently scheduled to fly 86 times between Tahiti and the U.S. in July compared with 100 round-trips in July 2019, according to Cirium data.

Tourism to Tahiti from the U.S. was closed by the French government in February. With the May 1 reopening, no quarantine requirements are in effect for travelers who are vaccinated against Covid-19 or show proof of recent recovery. However, all travelers still have to provide proof of a negative Covid test taken within three days of departing for Tahiti and take another test upon arrival.

Travelers without proof of a vaccine or antibodies will have to quarantine for 10 days on arrival. Children under 6 are exempt from the quarantine.
