Staycations are growing in popularity and many holidaymakers will be looking for the best attractions to keep them entertained during their trip. Tripadvisor has awarded its Travellers’ Choice Awards and the best UK distilleries to visit for a behind-the-scene tour.

The Traveller’s choice awards are given to businesses with great user reviews and ranked among the top 10 percent businesses on the site.

Shakespeare Distillery is the first distillery on the Traveller Ranking list of Top UK Food and Drink Tours.

The independent distillery, located in Stratford-upon-Avon opened a new visitor centre in 2019.

Making gin and rum, the distillery offers visitors tours, a gin school, cocktail masterclasses and even a gin cruise on the river Avon.

Shakespeare Distillery’s visitors are continuously delighted.

Ninety-six percent rated their experiences as “excellent”.

One reviewer said: “Such a brilliant day out, and I would highly recommend (the tour and the gin!).”

Another commented: “Fabulous experience. Great value for money.”

Someone else said: “Exceeded all expectations.”

The distillery was also given a silver medal in the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2021 for its Jester White Rum.

The Jester rum was the joint highest placed British-made unaged white rum.

Using British molasses, the distillery creates their rums in Stratford, one of the few UK distilleries to make 100 percent British rum.

The Boatyard Distillery, in Northern Ireland was also given a Traveller’s Choice Award.

The experience at the distillery is good enough that even visitors who don’t like gin can enjoy themselves.

A reviewer wrote: “This is a lovely visit even if you don’t like Gin!”

Scottish distillery Edinburgh Gin Distillery also won an award.

The gin tasting at the distillery has been labelled “excellent” and “really great” by an overwhelming number of reviewers.

Back in England, the interactive Cambridge Gin Laboratory also delivered exceptional experiences for travellers.

One said: “Simply wonderful. Such an amazing experience. Took my best friend here to show him Cambridge and it was one of the best evenings we’ve had. Splendid gin too.”

Rum drinkers should book at Portsmouth Distillery, who also got an award.

One reviewer said: “The Forum Garden Rum was the purchase of the day, surprisingly refreshing taste and definitely a “rum convert” after this tasting experience.”

Whether it’s gin or rum, UK distilleries are delivering fantastic experiences to visitors.
