Simple travel trick ‘greatly increases chances’ of free upgrade or discount

Covid restrictions have lessened this week with the UK no longer requiring Brits to get a PCR test upon their return home and hotspots, like Spain, slashing strict entry requirements.

And, many families are now looking to book holidays abroad after a long time stuck in the UK, but most of us don’t want to splash too much cash.

Luckily, website Wizz Air recently shared its top tips to help you bag a cheap deal or even a free upgrade.

Common money-saving hacks for staying under budget include flying with flexibility – that’s where you book flights first and choose the cheapest, less popular dates and times to save on cash.

Night flights are generally cheaper and taking a connecting flight could save you money too.

Meanwhile, Wizz air recommended trying to pay for your flights in the currency of your destination rather than in pounds.

Depending on the strength of the locations currency it might work out cheaper for you!

The website also recommended buying flights separately if you’re going as a group.

It will take longer to do, but could save you cash overall – and you’ll be able to ask to sit together at the gate when checking in (although this won’t be guaranteed).

Finally, Wizz air recommended liking, commenting and subscribing to your airline’s social media pages and signing up to the newsletter.

This is because followers will be the first to find out about new deals and offers.

Plus, some airlines rewards their followers by offering them exclusive deals, giving them early access to sales and even discount crews, reports the Express.

Cheap holiday expert Chelsea Travel said on her blog: "Is it just me or is there no better feeling than turning up to a hotel and finding out you’ve been given a free upgrade?!

"Well, what if I was to tell you that you can greatly increase your chances of getting upgraded by doing one simple thing?! Just ask for one."

The expert also recommended tagging the hotel or airline on social media.

She added: "Influencer or not, showing your excitement by tagging in the hotel in a post or Instagram story on the day before shows them how excited you are and also hints that you’ll be posting about your stay when you arrive too!"

It’s worth a shot for a better room!
