UK’s best places to visit in 2023 – from Manchester to Scarborough

Many of us are looking for a trip away over winter but don’t want to journey too far.

The cost-of-living crisis means that holidays abroad might be beyond many of our budgets.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a weekend away somewhere lovely within the UK.

There are plenty of tourism hotspots right here within our beautiful nation – from foodie cities to beachy seaside towns.

You can be all about galleries or love a good hike and there's something for everyone.

Check out the top 10 destinations in the UK according to Time Out:

1. Eastbourne

This seaside town is a fun hotspot to hit.

The interesting gallery Towner Eastbourne has been selected as the official host of the 2023 Turner Prize.

There’s also the Eastbourne Walking Festival (September 16 to 25) for those who love to be active.

Plus, you can grab a delicious drink at Beanzz Coffee & Kitchen.

Those who love a winter walk should stroll along Beachy Head for an incredible view of the seafront.

2. Birmingham

It may be surprising but Time Out rather Birmingham as the second best hotspot in the UK but apparently it's an “underrated food destination”.

Three restaurants made the GoodFood Guide this year – Carters of Moseley, The Wilderness, Grace & Savour at Hampton Manor.

3. Cardigan

This area in West Wales has been ignored for too long.

Time Out explained: “This is an old-fashioned Welsh market town with a dazzling creative streak, a beautiful place with a fascinating history.”

Check out the Guildhall Market for shopping, see a flick at the stunning cinema Mwldan and enjoy a tipple at gin distillery-cum-bar Bar 45.

4. Manchester

One of the North’s big cities came up next as it was rated “fun”, not to mention it's due to reopen the Manchester Museum including an exhibition from Yayoi Kusama.

Make sure you check out the Northern Quarter and grab a pastry from Ezra and Gil.

5. Scarborough

This Yorkshire seaside town has been a favourite with locals for a long time.

Apparently the area is thriving and is a great spot for craft beer.

Plus, it seems the melodic legend that is the Scarborough Fair will return in 2023.

Enjoy a cuppa from Yay Coffee and then stroll through South Cliff Gardens before tucking in at incredible restaurant Haus of S&M.
