Posh Indian restaurant serving menu with deer curry – for eye-watering £254 each

A posh Indian restaurant is flogging a menu that includes a deer curry and costs up to £254 per person.

The flash Gymkhana eatery in Mayfair, London, has a tasting menu for £100 that includes an £85 wine pairing.

A dish of lamb chops is an extra £19 and a recommended Cabernet Sauvignon is another £22. And an added service charge of 12.5% brings the total to £254.25.

The meal begins with poppadoms, aloo chaat and shrimp. Then diners get salmon tikka, or a quail kebab or goat keem.

Then comes a choice of muntjac biryani, butter chicken masala or a Goan prawn curry. To finish there is either pistachio kulfi or rice pudding with mango sorbet.

A vegetarian option is a tenner less at the Michelin star restaurant.

Diners are told: “Gymkhana is inspired by the elite clubs of India where members of high society socialise, eat, drink, and play sport.

“Gymkhana has held a Michelin star since 2014 for its classic and contemporary Indian cuisine.”

On the restaurant’s al a carte menu, the Muntjac dear dish costs £35 and a side of rice is £7.

One reviewer said of the tasting menu on TripAdvisor: “I booked my parents the tasting menu for a special occasion.

“As they love food experiences, we book them somewhere different each time. Unfortunately, this is the first time we had negative feedback after a Michelin experience.

“While the food was good, dishes were rushed, poppadom side plates and condiments were taken away before finished with, the remaining courses were hurried and my parents were moved to the bar to finish their wine, which was standing room only.”

Some do think the restaurant is worth the hype though – as it's garnered a four out of five rating on TripAdvisor.
